What Is Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering?

It is MORE than just rocket science! Aeronautical and astronautical engineering integrates multiple engineering disciplines. Aeronautics & Astronautics at Stanford emphasizes structural, aerodynamic, propulsion, and guidance and control problems of aircraft and spacecraft.

Programs

We currently offer one undergraduate degree program, three graduate degree programs and two online graduate certificate programs.

Undergraduate

From our inception in 1957 to Summer 2017, we were a graduate-only department. In Autumn 2017, we opened a new undergraduate program in response to demand by students and industry.

Coterminal

Stanford undergraduates may work simultaneously toward a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. The degrees may be granted simultaneously or the bachelor’s degree may be awarded first.

Graduate

Stanford’s Aeronautics & Astronautics graduate programs prepare students for professional positions in industry, government and academia through a comprehensive program of graduate teaching and research.

Online Graduate Certificates

Our graduate certificates, with courses delivered online by the Stanford Center for Professional Development, are especially designed for students in industry.

Courses ...

In addition to our degree programs, Aeronautics & Astronautics offers undergraduate and graduate courses in aerospace computational science, space policy and aerospace business to students in the wider Stanford community. Come learn with us!

Financial Aid

Undergraduate financial aid is handled through the Stanford University Financial Aid Office, which provides comprehensive information on financial aid alternatives for undergraduates. The Aeronautics & Astronautics department awards graduate financial aid in the form of graduate fellowships, research assistantships and course assistantships. Questions related to graduate financial aid should be directed to the staff of the Aeronautics and Astronautics Student Services Office.
